
2 Escape Death In Ihiala As Unknown Gunmen Give Hot Pursuit To 2 Vehicles From Orlu
Two persons escaped death Tuesday evening in Ihiala main town of Anambra state when numbers of unknown gunmen on motorcycles gave them hot pursuit from Orlu in Imo state.
The incident occurred between the hours of 3 and 4 pm.
One of the escapees, a lorry driver plied the Ihiala-Orlu road with a very high speed, and quickly disembarked from the vehicle when faced with two major obstructions at the T-junction to the Onitsha-Owerri road close to Total filling station in Ihiala.
Eye witness said the lorry driver was shaking uncontrollably when he tried to negotiate a bend into the Onitsha-Owerri road but were prevented with the huge crowd of people watching and following a masquerade who occupied the road; and a burnt trailer with 40 feet container partially blocking the road.
The trailer got burnt on March 26, 2022 and since then, carcass of the vehicle remained an obstruction to other road users at the T-junction.
It was gathered that some of the Unknown Gunmen numbering about eight followed through the Bank road to block their targets but before they could come out through the Bank road junction to Orlu road, the lorry driver had advanced, abandoned the lorry and ran into crowd of people for safety.
The Unknown Gunmen thereafter set the lorry ablaze.
Another escapee, who was driving a car, diverted his vehicle towards Eziani Community school in Ihiala after he sensed that the Unknown Gunmen had already advanced through the Bank road junction and in full control of the Orlu road.
The victim abandoned his car inside the Eziani Community school compound and ran for safety.
The Unknown Gunmen also set the car ablaze.
