
Anambra Deputy Governor Confronts Soldiers At Checkpoint Over Traffic Gridlock
It was a scene to behold on Saturday as Anambra State Deputy Governor, Onyeka Ibezim stopped over his convoy of vehicles to confront soldiers at military checkpoint in Awka, the Anambra State capital for causing traffic gridlock on the road.
The Deputy Governor who looked very angry with the way and manner road users were subjected to difficulties in passing through the Military Checkpoint at Amansea, personally took over the road and ordered all the vehicles to be allowed free passage.
The Deputy Governor in a video posted online was seen quarreling with the military men and threatened to end their stay on the road in the Amansea area of Awka.
One of the soldiers was seen trying to calm the Deputy Governor down and make some explanations but the angered Deputy Governor made him understand that he worked as Director in the nation’s Defence.
According to the Deputy Governor, he met the soldiers earlier in the morning and warned them against causing traffic gridlock on the road.
The Deputy Governor ordered members of his entourage to dismantle the obstructions the military men used in blocking the road partially.
He was seen controlling the road traffic by himself.
It was gathered that due to the activities of unknown gunmen, soldiers at special military checkpoints across Anambra state do use temporarily traffic gridlock as defence strategies.
In some military checkpoints, all passengers except elderlies and pregnant women, must alight from their vehicles and walk through the military checkpoints.
In some cases, the passengers have to raise their two hands up while walking through the military checkpoints.
This became very rampant when Unknown Gunmen successful attacks and killing of soldiers at military checkpoints in the state and neighbouring Imo state were so high between the mid year of 2021 and 2022.
