Edo state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu has said his recent invitation by the World Football Governing body, FIFA to witness the 2022 World Cup draws in Qatar, offered him a positive developments to drive the sports industry especially in Edo State.
The Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu who returned from Qatar after honouring the FIFA invitation at the weekend, said he met very key football stakeholders and they had fruitful discussions that centred around development of football especially at the grassroots.
Philip Shaibu words issued some minutes ago read thus:
I returned to Nigeria weekend from a very succes trip to Dhar, Qatar with a lot of positive develoments to drive the sports industry, especially football in Edo State.
Recall that I was amongst the very few privileged personalities invited by the world football governing body, FIFA to witness the draws for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. I used the opportunity to make some strategic moves aimed at developing the round leather game in Edo State and indeed, Nigeria.
I met with key stakeholders in the football industry from around the world and we had fruitful discussions that centred around the development of football, especially at the grassroots.
Amongst these key football stakeholders are the FIFA President, Giani Infantino; FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura; Chelsea FC legend, Didier Drogba; Nigeria football legend, Austin Jay Jay Okocha; South Korea football icon, Jin Soon Park; former Arsenal Manager, Monsieur Arsene Wenger and the all-time Nigeria highest scoring striker in the Premier League, Yakubu Ayegbeni. I also lashed on the opportunity to have lifelong pictures with these football top shots at the exhibition centre, Doha, Qatar, where the draws took place.
