
Governor Obaseki Bans Street Begging In Edo
Edo state government under the leadership of Godwin Obaseki has banned street begging in the state.
Governor Godwin Obaseki made the announcement on Monday when he received Muslim faithfuls who came to pay him Sallah homage at the State Government House in Benin City.
According to the Governor, education is the right of every child hence he would link education with street begging and on the next few months, the state would no longer permit street begging.
“I received Muslim faithful who were at the Government House to celebrate the Eid-El Fitr after the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, urging their support in tackling the menace of street begging in the state.
“We believe that basic education is the right of every Edo child; it is their right and it is free and compulsory.
“We will link education with street begging and street children.
“In the next few months, we will not allow street begging in Edo anymore”, Governor Godwin Obaseki said.
Meanwhile, there is a report that the governor plans to evacuate the street beggars to their various states of origin.
