Group Calls For Minute Silence For Voters Killed In Edo
Youths in Edo State and beyond have been asked to hold a minute silence for voters killed by political thugs in the state during the controversial and tension brewing 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections.
A statement by a leader of one of the Human rights groups in Edo State, Curtis Eghosa Ugbo, the President of Benin Solidiarity Movement, BSM, the minute silence should begin at 8:00 till 8:01 in the morning of Wednesday.
It was gathered that the voters namely Mrs Elizabeth Arigo Owie and Festus Idahosa were shot dead by political thugs around Ogheghe Market in the Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo State on Saturday while they were at the polling unit performing their civic duty.
According to Eseosa Ewere: “My dear sister and most very friend, Elizabeth Arigo Owie was hit by a stray bullet at last Saturday’s poll.
“She voted at Unit 34, Ward 9, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area (Ogheghe Market)
“One of the new Units introduced by INEC last year.
“While the election held, from the blues, unknown gunmen struck, fired shots into an innocent crowd, lo and behold, Oyibo as we often called her, took a bullet, she is dead.
“Leaving 3 kids to an average husband.
“I am deeply and personally touched by her unsolicited death, particularly for the role I played getting her to that Unit last year.
“When she called during the Voters Registration Exercise that she wanted to register, I immediately linked her with the INEC Officials on ground at her Ward, she was happy at the completion of the exercise.
“Today, however, that happiness is ruined and the family has been thrown to mourning.
“Elizabeth radiated light and beauty through-and-through.
“This is too much naaaa
I am in the verge of losing a Senatorial election
“I am in the verge of losing a Presidential election.
“Now I can confirm I have lost a dear friend and sister.
Vbenakhuemwina??? ( Bini language meaning “what are all these”.).
Curtis Eghosa Ugbo: “Dear OBidients,
“Here are the pictures of the OBIDIENT Movement Family footsoldiers who died in the struggle for the liberation of me, you, our children and those yet unborn.
“He (Festus Idahosa) was shot dead along side a nursing woman (Mrs Elizabeth Owie) who was a mother of 3-children by the opposition political party hired thugs at their Ogheghe Polling Unit during the Presidential/NASS Assembly election that took place last Saturday 25th February, 2023.
As the Edo South Senatorial Coordinator, (Honest Youths For Peter Obi) and a well known Leader of the Labour Party in Edo State, Nigeria, I want to use this medium to inform all Obidient Movement Family members across the World and particularly in Edo South to hold a minute silence tomorrow (8:00 a.m to 8:01 a.m) for him wherever you are as a sign of brotherhood and our last respect for his death in the cause of struggle for freedom from the barbaric hands of the political criminals in Edo State.
“As you all can see Festus Idahosa died with his PVC, still by his side because he believed Nigeria will be great again!!!”.
