A police officer who was among the special police team that formed back up to men of the Nigerian Army when the Nigeria soldiers were attacked on Tuesday at Odoata school in Ihiala town by unknown gunmen have been killed by colleague after returning to Ihiala Police Division from the operation.
It was gathered that the police officer was killed by colleague when the suspect currently in police custody was trying to dismantle his gun.
The suspected killer, as gathered made attempt to fire the gun by raising the gun upward to sky but the gun did not respond or release bullet. He made more attempt to dismantle the gun but the gun was allegedly positioned in the wrong direction and a bullet fell out, hit through the side mirror of the police vehicle to kill the deceased officer who was exhausted and relaxing with head on the steering of the vehicle.
The bullet was said to hit the decease on the chest.
The deceased, it was learnt had went home after joining the police back up team to assist men of the Nigeria Army in the gun battle with the unknown gunmen. He was called to return to work after the area commander informed the division that another car that was snatched by unknown gunmen has been discovered.
The deceased drove the team to the location and successfully retrieved the vehicle to the station, and was relaxing with his head on the steering when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Sources close to police said the police authority is making arrangement to charge the suspect to court for murder.
