
LP Supporter Chude Nnamdi Arrested Over Social Media Statement – IGP
Office of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba has issued a statement to clarify why Labour Party supporter, Chude Franklin Nnamdi was arrested in Onitsha, a commercial city in Anambra State during the last Saturday Governorship and State Housed of Assembly elections in Nigeria.
The police boss in a statement signed by the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi and made available few minutes ago, said, Chude Franklin Nnamdi was arrested on a crime described as Cyberstalking.
“The Nigeria Police hereby confirms that one Mr. Chude Franklin Nnamdi with Twitter handle ‘@chude__’ was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State on the 18th of March, 2023, and he is being investigated by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) Abuja, for cyberstalking, pursuant to a complaint received via a petition, about his activities on social media which contravenes the provision of Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 and other criminal laws.
“Furthermore, a prima facie case has been established against him while the case file has been forwarded to the Force Legal Department for further action.
“The Nigeria Police Force therefore urges members of the public to familiarize themselves with provisions of the law and be aware of the penalties for violating them most especially cybercrime laws with the new trends in the digital media space”, the police said.
It would be recalled that Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has said he knows nothing about the arrest of the Labour Party supporter in the State, Nnamdi Chude by men of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday during the state assembly elections.
Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo made this known in a statement on his social media accounts on Sunday.
“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command has confirmed to me, that one Mr Nnamdi Chude was arrested yesterday (18 March, 2023) in Anambra by the Cyber Crime Unit of Interpol and taken to Abuja today (19 March, 2023).
Nnamdi Chude, a Labour Party supporter was alleged to have been arrested following his tweet accusing the State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of rigging the State Houses of Assembly elections in favour of his political party, All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.
