There are concerns that the threat made by Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki to probe the much talked N30 billion Benin Storm water project was a mere political statement.

In some quarters, it is believed part of the borrowed funds were the money Adams Oshiomhole used to campaign for Godwin Obaseki that makes him emerged Governor of the state in 2016.

Hence many believe Godwin Obaseki cannot probe himself.

To add to this, the Federal Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clem Agba in reaction to Obaseki threat, said recently they are elders and warned Governor Godwin Obaseki repeatedly in several paragraphs in the message to know such issues are better handle without coming out to dance dirty in the public.

Clem Agba was the supervising commissioner for Ministry of Environment in charge of the storm water project when Godwin Obaseki and Adams Oshiomhole were always visiting the storm water project site and in some occasion eating fresh corn alongside each other publicly.

According to Clem Agba, Obaseki threat to probe the storm water project was a mere political strategy to smear his reputation because he recently approached the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewaure11 and emphasized the need Governor Godwin Obaseki shouldn’t abandon the project.

This he said made Governor Obaseki to make recent statement that the Benin Storm water project was a fraud.

Earlier, Governor Godwin Obaseki said there is no way erosion or water can be controlled from a low level land to a higher ground.

Adding that, the storm water project was designed to defraud Edo people and thereafter threatened to probe the financial execution of the project.

Immediately, documents said to be paper work for the project were evacuated from Government building along Sapele road to unknown destination on the basis that some persons planned to steal the documents.

At a ceremony yesterday, Governor Godwin Obaseki was seen for the first time since after his re-election in September, 2020 to exchange greetings in public with his former chief campaigner and promoter, Adams Oshiomhole.

The romance was so loud that many are believing that the two former friends turned enemy for obvious personal and political reasons are gradually coming back as friends again to avoid the Benin storm water probe.

The question in the lips of many is that will the new romance end the probe because Clem Agba insisted that having Godwin Obaseki younger sister as a wife and in line with Benin cultural norms for elders, they don’t need to dance dirty in the public.
