Is Lack Of Security Present Cause Of Insecurity In Edo

Heads of security agencies in Edo state may have case to answer over negligent of duty and institutional irresponsibilities resorting to wanton destruction of lives and properties in Edo state of recent time.

A drive round some major roads in Benin City on Saturday night shows there is heavy lack of police and other security agencies’ present in the city centre.

Unlike some other states visited, where heavy present of security personnel is well observed, even in some areas; you see police mounting checking point day and night from a fewer kilometer to another.

In Edo, a drive round upper Sakponba, Saint Saviour, Slope, Ramart Park, Aduwawa among other areas from 9pm to 1:00 am the following day shows no sign of security present.

No police patrol least to say any other security agencies’ patrolling the streets.

No police checking point or guarding location. The roads and the areas were seemingly very free.

Only guys with dreaded face were seen moving from one point to another despite the 12:00 -4:00 am curfew imposed by the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

These selected areas are mostly the hot spots where series of crimes were reportedly committed in the state of recent time.

At Ramart Park, a car ran into gutter resulting to serious damage and the victims stocked for a long period of time until passersby came to their rescue at about 12:13am.

At Aduwawa area, some young men were seen plying the road with motorcycle or okada at mid night.

Motorcycle were banned years back from major streets in Benin to curtail criminality.

This is of great concern to many as wave of crime in Edo continued to grow unabated.
