Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has insisted that his government is proactive in the management of security situation in the state.
Governor Hope Uzodimma statement is coming after unknown gunmen attacked and razed the third police station within 72 hours in the state.
The gunmen as it was gathered attacked Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters in the Mbaitoli local government area at the early hour of today and set free suspects in the police custody.
The Mbieri Police station makes it the third police station the rampaging gunmen have razed between Monday and Thursday this week.
The gunmen after attacking the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police Headquarters on Monday, freed 1,884 inmates at the Owerri Federal Correctional Services.
Shortly after the then Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and Nigeria Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo left Imo state on Tuesday, the unknown gunmen attacked Ehime Mbano Divisional Police Headquarters, set free suspects in the police custody and set ablaze the police station.
Between January and April, 2021 gunmen have attacked several numbers of police stations in Imo state.
The stations include Obowo, Aboh Mbaise, Ihitte/Uboma, Isiala Mbano Divisional Police Headquarters amongst others.
Soldiers at check point in Nkworji area along Onitsha-Owerri road on Monday were attacked, patrol vehicles set ablaze and the security personnel ran away to escape death.
According to Hope Uzodimma, members of the Imo State Executive Council during the weekly meeting held today at Government House, Owerri, the council urged the security agencies to avoid the temptation of focusing on one hypothesis (or a single information that could be proved right or wrong) in the course of investigating those responsible for the Monday attack on government facilities in the state.
Exact words of Governor Hope Uzodimma read:
“The Government also called on the Security agencies to beam their searchlight on all possible suspects and avoid the temptation of focusing in only one direction to ensure that the brains behind the mayhem are fished out and prosecuted accordingly.
“Therefore, Council directed the security agents to expedite their investigation and make sure that no stone is left unturned and to beam their searchlight in all possible suspected areas and ensure that those who perpetrated this dastardly act are fished out and brought to book as quickly as possible.
“Council condemned the attacks in strong terms and commended our proactive steps in dealing with the situation which has drawn the attention and support of the Federal government”.
