Most Okada Riders Are Criminals – CP
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi has said that most commercial motorcyclists well known as Okada riders are criminals.
The Police boss stated this on Thursday morning while speaking with journalists during the Sunrise Daily programme on Channels Television.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on Wednesday banned the operations of commercial motorcycle riders in six Local Governments and nine Local Government Development Areas in the state.
The affected councils are Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland and Apapa.
It would be recalled the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu decided to ban Okada riders when last week Thursday night, a group of Okada riders killed and burnt a sound engineer to death in the Lekki Phase 1 area of the state over one hundred naira.
The victim was said to be out to settle dispute between the Okada riders who pounced on his two friends.
The two friends and the deceased were beaten to a pulp but the sound engineer could not make it alive. While the two friends managed to escape, the sound engineer was seen in a viral video set ablaze by the mob of Okada riders said to be mainly Hausas by tribe.
That aside, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi said most Okada riders are criminals and this time, the police is going to enforce the ban effectively.
The Police Commissioner also said he knows banning Commercial motorcycle riders can increase crime rate but the police is prepared for them.
The Police Commissioner specifically said the ban on Okada does not affect those on courier delivery services.
