Nigerians Groan As Passengers Train Derail In Kogi, Abuja
For the past one week, the reliability and effectiveness of the Nigeria railway system came into questioning.
Less than a week after passengers train from Itakpe-Warri route derailed in Kogi state on Monday, another train derailment occurred in Abuja, the federal capital territory (FCT) on Friday.
It was gathered that the train was few minutes from its destination in Abuja when it veered off the rail tracks.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in the Kubwa area of the FCT leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
“people were just thanking God that it was not on the highway tracks”, a resident of the area said.
Some persons blamed the derailment of Itakpe-Warri passengers Train on Vandals who were said vandalized the railroads, causing the locomotives to veer off track at the vandalized portion of the railroad.
It would be recalled that some passengers and officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation were kidnapped few weeks ago along the Itakpe-Warri route at Igueben Community in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.
Also, passengers train along the Itakpe-Warri route was engulfed with fire mid December 2022.
Meanwhile, the Abuja-Kaudna bound passengers train derailed off the rail track along Kubwa area in Abuja.
The passengers train derailed few meters from the Kubwa train station.
The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained, unlike Itakpe-Warri train derailment that was blamed on vandals because the derailment occured inside the bush.
Abuja-Kaudna bound passengers train derailment occured within populated area.
Di train bin don near one of im final destination inside Abuja wen e derail inside residential area.
