Special team of Nigeria Police Force has invaded Nnediaso Hospital in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State, arrested one suspected member of unknown gunmen and the entire medical personnel and some other staff of the hospital.
Residents said the special police team with three Hilux vehicles backed up with armoured personnel carrier on Tuesday, between the period of 11 and 12 noon blocked the entire bank road in Ihiala from Zenith bank junction to Fidelity bank for over 45 minutes, the special operation lasted.
Residents said the police men carried out the operation successfully without shooting a gun.
Vehicles and motorcycles were prevented from plying the road while operation lasted according to eye witnesses.
Onlookers said after a group of unknown gunmen carried out show of force in Ihiala area on Friday, a special team of Police men on Saturday, the following day, stopped one of the Hilux vehicles used by the Unknown Gunmen.
According to sources close to police, driver of the black Hilux vehicle was asked to stop at a special checkpoint but he refused.
One of the occupants as we learnt opened fire on the policemen and thereafter, the police team engaged them in a shoot out.
Reliable sources said one of the occupants escaped successfully but the driver of the Hilux vehicle was hit by bullets, yet, managed to escape.
The sources added that a check on the Hilux vehicle, the police team saw guns and charms suspected being transported to Unknown Gunmen.
Onlookers said, on Saturday, they saw a young man with blood dripping out from his body being rescued by commercial motorcycle rider within the Ihiala main town.
It was gathered that the man may be the first person that was handcuffed and brought out from the hospital by the special police team.
Residents said they counted over 13 of the hospital workers including the doctors, cleaners, Nurses, students on training among those handcuffed and forced into the police armoured personnel carrier.
