Nigeria Police Force have paraded more suspected kidnappers terrorizing the Nigeria Federal Capital Territory and seat of power, Abuja, just as outcry and public protests against the incessant high rates of kidnapping and insecurity in the black Africa capital city, Abuja continued.

The Nigeria Police Force in recent time launched a special crime combat team code named, Special Intervention Squad, SIS to address the high level of insecurity and incessant kidnappings in the Nigeria capital city.

On Friday, the police authority informed the general public that one Chinaza Phillip, a notorious Abuja kidnapper has been arrested by police operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command on Thursday 18th January, 2024.

The suspect was said to have been handed over to FCT police Command on Friday.

Former Senator representing Kaduna State Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly had said via his X social media handle that “Nigeriaโ€™s capital is experiencing an upsurge in cases of kidnappings; this is the same city that the previous federal government secured a $460 million Chinese loan for the installation of CCTV cameras. Both the money and the Cameras have since been kidnapped by elements of the past Governments”.

The Police Force Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in an earlier statement via his personal X social media handle on Friday, said, “the new commander IRT, DC Mohammed Sanusi and his team have arrested many kidnappers and recovered arms and ammunition, many of which were displayed recently. Just 2 days after the launching of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in abuja, by the IGP, IRT has picked 2 gun runners and 4 suspected kidnappers who terrorise the FCT and neighbouring communities. The operations are still on. Details to come soon, as we intend to brief the media/Nigerians on these developments. We count on your support to do more. Thanks”.

On Saturday, the Police Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi during the Police press briefing and parade of suspected criminals tagged: “LAUNCH OF SIS CONSOLIDATES FCT SECURITY ARCHITECTURE…As NPF Arrests Bwari-Based Kidnappers, Parades 16 Suspects for Kidnapping, Violent Crimes, Recover GMPG, Other Sophisticated Firearms” narrated the new development in policing the Nigeria capital city and addressing the fears of residents and business owners.

The statements read in quotes: “Following the recent launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as a significant stride towards fortifying the security landscape in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and through collaborative efforts with the Department of Force Intelligence – Intelligence Response Team (DFI-IRT), the FCT Command Anti-Violent Crimes Section, Anti-kidnapping Section and other State Commands, the Squad has successfully apprehended sixteen (16) notorious criminals and recovered significant arsenal of arms and ammunition including a general purpose machine gun (GPMG).

“Amongst the suspects paraded today were the three (3) Bwari-based kidnappers- Idris Ishaku, male, 27 years, Bala Umar, male, 27 years, and Dahiru Salisu, male, 27 years, who have been responsible for series of armed robbery cases and kidnappings in the Bwari Local Government Area and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“Similarly, the combined team of operatives have arrested thirteen (13) suspects for various other crimes. Amongst the achievements recorded is the foiling of another kidnap plot through technical intelligence resulting in the arrest of the above-named Bwari-based kidnappers, and weapons recovered from them.

“In a proactive move, following a report on the abduction of a victim from his house along with his Hilux Van with Registration number: RBC 90 DL Gray colour by four armed men who disguised in a white Mercedez Benz 230 car, Police Operatives in an intelligence propelled investigation discovered that the victim was being taken to Kano State, but was dispossessed of his ATM cards at Kaduna while the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (โ‚ฆ500,000.00) was transferred from his account.

“The suspects however ran out of luck as they were intercepted by Police operatives at a filling station in Kaduna where three of them escaped, while one by the name Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael was arrested, the victim rescued unhurt, and the said Hilux Van recovered. It was discovered that Chinaza Philip Okoye Michael and his accomplices had earlier been arrested sometime in November 2023 and charged for similar offences, at the High Court, Kwali, Abuja, but went back to committing even worse crimes while on court bail.

“Also, operatives of the DFI-IRT office intercepted one Everest Magaji, a gunrunner, during negotiation with some notorious bandits who are currently at large, for the purchase and supply of illicit firearms and ammunition. Eleven (11) Pistols, and Two (2) Pump Action Guns were recovered from the suspect.

“The achievements recorded through these relentless operations demonstrate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure our country becomes a safe haven for us to inhabit. The IGP urges all citizens to be very observant of their environs and the people in it, and report any suspicious activity immediately to the police”.
