
Second Niger Bridge To Be Named After Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday commissioned and made open for use the second Niger Bridge linking Delta and Anambra States.
Information from the Presidency and the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS indicated that the governors of the five state in the eastern Nigeria often referred to as Biafra land have agreed to rename the bridge after the outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The governors are yet to issue official statement over the renaming of the Second Niger Bridge as Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.
The Southeastern states have witnessed several numbers of killings, most especially security operatives and bombing of government facilities by unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Biafra secessionist armed group.
According to ABS, the 3.2 kilometer Second Niger Bridge linking Delta State and Anambra State was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari via virtual.
“President Buhari performed the function virtually while other stakeholders gathered at the Asaba end of the bridge to witness the history making event.
“The Bridge which its total contract sum amounts to over 200 billion naira was named after President Muhammadu Buhari making it Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.
“The Federal Secretariat, Awka named after former Federal Head of Service, Ebele Okeke was also commissioned today.
“President Buhari said that the projects are part of his commitment to improve on infrastructural development in the country, create employment opportunities and enthrone sustainable economic transformation.
“The President further revealed that the projects were funded through loans and money recovered from crime.
“He said that most of the debt recorded by his administration are tied to infrastructure which has direct impact on the growth of the nation.
“The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in his speech said that the project will be a major economic game changer for the South East, South South and the entire Nigeria.
“He commended President Buhari for delivering the second Niger Bridge and said that the bridge has remained one of the major projects the South Eastern part of Nigeria has been agitating for.
“He said that other projects needed to fastrack development in the South East including rail way, gas pipeline among others will be presented to Buhari’s successor.
“The event attracted other Governor’s including that of Delta, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa represented and Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodimma, traditional rulers from the host communities among others.
“The unveiling and cutting of tape was done by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige flanked by Governors, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders”, ABS report reads in quote.
Bashir Ahmad, Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, in a tweet said; “the Second Niger Bridge is to officially be called/known as MUHAMMADU BUHARI SECOND NIGER BRIDGE”.
