Nigeria Police Force has claimed it has arrested 15 persons among those that allegedly terrorised Ebonyi state during the week as members of Unknown Gun women and men enforcing the seven days sit-at-home order declared by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, led by Simon Ekpa.
The police made the claim on Friday at Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital when it paraded before the press some women and men suspected to be Unknown Gun secessionist group that were seen in a self recorded viral video shooting at traders, motorists and other road users on Tuesday in Ebonyi state.
The Police also paraded a bird allegedly aiding crime in the state.
The Police claim could not be independently verified as nor of the suspects paraded before the press was given the freedom or opportunity to speak to the press directly or allowed right to fair hearing as a way of reacting to the accusation leveled against them by the police.
The outgoing Police Commissioner of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Faleye Olaleye the arrested persons were responsible for shootings in parts of the state on Tuesday. Adding they were arrested at their camp alongside their witch doctor or ‘barbalawo’ he referred to as herbalist while planning to carry out another attack in the state on Friday.
“Fifteen of them have been apprehended even with their herbalist. You can see the board, you can see the red cloth they were wearing that day, you can see the paraphernalia which also includes the women.
“They were preparing for another attack today when we carried out the sting operation and arrested them,” the Commissioner of Police said.
It would be recalled that some gunmen putting on black trousers and red clothes, on Tuesday, dispersed residents, particularly traders, around Ishieke and Ukwuachi suburbs of Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
