Sit-At-Home: Unknown Gunmen Warn Petty Traders At Ihiala Against Night Market
Suspected members of the Biafra secessionist armed group known as unknown gunmen last week Monday flogged and chased away some petty traders who came out in the evening during the every Monday sit-at-home order initiated as a protest for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the declaration of Biafra Republic.
There was no report if any of the petty traders was injured or killed but the unknown gunmen who came out from their camps within the Ihiala Local Government Area to the main town reportedly flogged numbers of the traders who disobeyed the order.
OsazuwaAkonedo reports that since the every Monday sit-at-home order started on August 9, 2021, residents do come out in the evening of the sit-at-home days to make little sales but things took a new dangerous twist after President Muhammadu Buhari on Channels Television interview said he would not apply political solution to release the Biafra agitation leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is currently under the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS over treasonable felony and terrorism charges preferred against him by the Federal Government.
Last week Monday, the sit-at-home order in Anambra state appeared to be more complied with by residents when compared to previous Mondays.
There were reported cases of unknown gunmen shooting sporadically at Obollo area of Enugu state to scare residents and chase away traders who flouted the sit-at-home order.
Petty traders who do come out along Bank road at Ihiala main town every Monday evening since the sit-at-home order started, were not spared last Monday as some were flogged and warned never to come out on Mondays for sales.
It was gathered that the petty traders always display their items on the road because the main market is fully under lock and key on Mondays.
The action of the unknown gunmen on Monday caused the delay in opening the main market the following day being Tuesday as it was gathered that the unknown gunmen had threatened to punish the traders by thus adding Tuesday as sit-at-home day.
OsazuwaAkonedo reports that the main market known as Nkwogbe in Ihiala and all the lock up shops around the nearby streets in the market area could not open on Tuesday until around 9 O’clock when information filtered into the town that they have been set free.
