
Tinubu Receives GCFR Title Thursday
Presidency under the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari has informed the general public that the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will receive the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic, GCFR title on Thursday.
A tweet by Bashir Ahmad, the Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the President on Wednesday night, indicated that, the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima will also receive the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON.
GCFR, is the highest National honour in Nigeria.
The President action is coming a day to the judgement date the Supreme Court of Justice, Nigeria apex court fixed to decide on the case brought before it on the eligibility of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima to be sworn-in.
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and its presidential candidate in the last general elections in Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar had filed an appeal before the Supreme Court to disqualify the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima from being sworn in as Nigeria Vice president on the ground of double nomination. Kashim Shettima was accused of seeking to serve the country by vying for two different political offices prior to the general elections held February 25, 2023.
The Supreme Court of Justice on Monday fixed Friday May 26, 2023 as judgement day on the case.
“Tomorrow, President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be conferred with the highest national honor in the country, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) by President Muhammadu Buhari, while Vice President-elect Senator Kashim Shettima will be conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON)”, Bashir Ahmad said on Wednesday night.
