UNIBEN Students To Use Federal Roads As Class Rooms Till ASUU Calls Off Strike
University of Benin students have launched a movement coded UNISTREETS as part of activities to protest and press home thier demands of ending the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASSU strike that have paralyzed academic activities in the country since February 14, 2022.
The UNIBEN students who blocked Benin-Ibadan-Lagos Federal road and other roads up to the city centre at Oba Ovonramwen square formerly known as Ring road in Benin City said they would start taking lectures on the streets, reviewing their lessons’ notes on the Federal roads in order for ASUU and Federal Government to see reason to end the strike.
The students in their various placards described themselves as customers, while the striking ASUU lecturers as workers with the Federal Government as managing director; trading with their destiny.
One of the placards boldly inscribed with the inscription reads thus: “University of Streets (UNISTREETS). #EndASUUStrike.
“They are killing our dreams. They are suffocating our dreams.
“We need our lives back. 80 days and still counting. This must end now”
ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022 following disagreement with the Federal Government on salary and other issues.
