Residents and other traders in Umunze, the administrative headquarters of Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State have been passing through difficulties in carrying out financial transactions since Unknown Gunmen killed numbers of soldiers providing security for the commercial banks in the community recently.
Unknown Gunmen had on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 attacked and killed fiver soldiers stationed in Umunze for the security of lives and properties, most especially banks in the community.
The Unknown Gunmen also killed a civilian, identified as “MTN” who was said do allegedly collect bribe on behalf of the soldiers from trailer drivers plying through the road.
Residents said since the attack occurred, the traders and other residents in the community do travel long distance to Ekwulobia, the administrative headquarters of Aguata local government area of Anambra State to make deposit or bank withdrawal.
Banks, such as FirstBank, Zenith Bank, Access bank among others have remained closed and refused to carry out operations since the attack occurred.
It was gathered that the soldiers were killed by unknown gunmen at a location closer to Zenith Bank branch in Umunze which is also closer to other commercial banks located along the Umunze-Isuochi road.
While residents also said there was sporadic shooting in Umunze on Friday which forced many including traders and other residents to lock themselves indoor for hours.
