
Unknown Gunmen Take Over Onitsha-Owerri Road, Set Ablaze Over 100 Vehicles, Goods Worth Billions
Deadly Unknown Gunmen on Thursday night took over the ever busy Onitsha-Owerri Federal road, setting ablaze over 100 vehicles alongside goods worth billions of naira.
It was gathered that the Unknown Gunmen started the attack simultaneously in Ekwusigo area of Anambra State and Mgbidi community in Imo State around 11pm.
It was observed that the vehicles set ablaze were mostly Luxurious buses, trailer trucks with crude oil and fifty feet containers, and open bucket lorries filled completely with goods.
Over 30 to 40 vehicles were attacked between Ekwusigo and Okija river in Anambra state.
One of the cars was seen turned upsidedown, and completely burnt to ashes.
Tankers conveying Crude Oil, were partially attacked with deflection of the tires.
Many other trucks filled with goods were set on fire.
Between Amorka in Anambra state and Orlu junction at Mgbidi community in Imo state, several trucks, cars, luxurious buses, goods were set ablaze.
Residents in the two locations said they heard sporadic gunshots between the hours of 11 pm on Thursday night till 4 a.m on Friday morning.
Some residents said no one was killed during the attack.
The residents said the Unknown Gunmen forced the passengers and drivers to disembark from the vehicles before setting the vehicles ablaze.
Some other residents fault the claim that no life was lost during the attack.
The residents said some of the road users were kidnapped at Ekwusigo, and two persons have been killed.
“If you enter Azia community, through Onitsha-Owerri road, after the river, you will see two fresh dead bodies. It is unknown gunmen who took them, killed them and dumped their bodies there”, one of the residents said.
