Tension build up around 11 O’clock this morning in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State over planned campaign visit to the area by the Labour Party, LP 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.
It was gathered that residents and traders at Nkwogbe market in the Ihiala main town hurriedly closed shops and ran for safety following information allegedly sent by unknown gunmen.
Ihiala being one of the stronghold of Unknown Gunmen, some of the traders said they decided to run home “because the guys (unknown gunmen) may come out. We were told to close our shops.
“Soldiers were already patrolling the Onitsha-Owerri road, shooting into the air from Saint Martin’s Catholic church school compound, the venue for the political campaign to Nkwogbe Market”.
Residents said schools, banks and many of the residents closed shops, but some residents gathered at the campaign rally ground to wait for the state former governor, Peter Obi’s arrival.
