Early videos from the ongoing coup in Russia have indicated that the Wagner private military group has captured and surrounded the Russian military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don.
The Russian military headquarters in Rostov region, oversees the security of southern Russia region and the fighting in Ukraine.
Wagner group, a private military mercenary that has been working for Russia and fighting against Ukraine in the eastern region of Bakhmut since February 24, 2022 when President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine, on Friday, made a U-turn and declared rebellious war against Russia.
Wagner Founder, Yevgeny Prigozhin in series of audio and video broadcasts on Friday till Saturday, as at the time of filing in this report, vowed to engage Russia Military with the 25,000 Wagner group soldiers.
The VChK-OGPU channel published a video and reported that PMC Wagner captured the headquarters of the Southern Military District in Rostov, the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. “The FSB and the administration of Rostov were also taken. In short, the city was taken. They are preparing in Voronezh.”
Earlier videos showed Wagner group soldiers entering Rostov region with heavy war equipments.
A new video posted few minutes ago showed Wagner group soldiers surrounded the FSB or Russia military headquarters building in Rostov-on-Don.
Any confrontation or fighting is yet to be reported.
“They won’t be able to destroy us, we have goals, we are all ready to die, all 25 thousand, and then another 25 thousand, because we are dying for our homeland, we are dying for the Russian people, who must be freed”, Yevgeny Prigozhin had said.
It would be recalled that Security was tightened in central Moscow in the early hours of Saturday. The protective measures were stepped up at government buildings, transport facilities and other key locations in the Russian capital, according to local media reports.
Owner of the Wagner private military group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had said early Saturday that his forces had crossed from Ukraine into Russia and entered the city of Rostov, facing no resistance by border guards. Prigozhin said his men were ready to go “all the way” against the Russian military and would destroy anyone who stood in their way.
Also, in an audio recording posted on the Telegram messaging app, the Wagner chief said young conscripts at checkpoints stood back and did not fight, adding that his forces “aren’t fighting against children.”
Prigozhin on Friday had said that Wagner field camps were struck by rockets, helicopter gunships and artillery fire on orders from the chief of the military’s General Staff, General Valery Gerasimov.
Prigozhin added that Gerasimov issued the order after a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, at which they decided to destroy Wagner.
The Russian Defense Ministry rejected Prigozhin’s claims in a statement.
