
We Came Out Of Civil War Strong But… – LAPO Founder, Godwin Ehigiamusoe Speaks To Mark 64th Birthday
Founder of Lift Above Poverty Organisation, the parent company of all LAPO subsidiaries, Godwin Eseiwi Ehigiamusoe has stated the reason he started LAPO Micro finance which is considered today as the father of all micro finance banks in Nigeria and Africa continent as a way to mark his 64 birthday anniversary.
Godwin Ehigiamusoe in a message few minutes ago, traced his decision to see a better Nigeria to the aftermath of Nigeria-Biafra civil war leading to his activeness and involvement in Nigeria politics.
Godwin Ehigiamusoe also noted in his message that, at age 26, he started the process of poverty alleviation which he remarked has remained his life long people centred engagement that has shown his commitment to greater Nigeria.
“BIRTHDAY REFLECTIONS
“The decade of the 1970s was an interesting one for Nigeria.
“We came out of a civil war strong at the beginning of the decade; this was followed by oil boom with its humongous revenue.
“Nigerians especially, young people were excited and looked forward to the emergence of Nigeria as the true giant of Africa! And some of us were involved.
“Barely 20, as an undergraduate, at the University of Benin, I led a students’ organization committed to the greatness of Nigeria.
“At 21 , in 1979 , I volunteered as a field operative for the Unity Party of Nigeria. It was because of its 4-Cardinal programmes of free education; free healthcare; integrated rural development; and gainful
“At 26, I set my feet on the path which eventually led to my life long people-centred engagement
“At 64 today, I keep commitment and hope for greater Nigeria alive”, Godwin Ehigiamusoe said.
