Woman Held By NAPTIP For Beating Maid To Death Now In Our Custody – Police
Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has called on the general public to be cautious when angry and desist from going physical when correcting children.
Anambra state Police Command Spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu stated this on Thursday while confirming the arrest and detention of a 37-year-old woman, Chinelo Udogu, who allegedly beat her housemaid to death and threw away the dead body.
According to the Police, the woman dumped the 3 years old child dead body at a bush in Amikwo quarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
“On the incident about a woman, Chinelo Udogu, who allegedly flogged a 3-year-old child to death and dumped her body in a bush at Amikwo, Awka, she has been arrested and the victim’s body recovered.
“The lesson for us to learn is that we should be cautious when angry and desist from going physical when correcting our children.
“Meanwhile the case has been to transfer to state CID for a discretion investigations. Further development shall be communicated”, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu said.
It was gathered that the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Anambra State Command, arrested the woman which she allegedly confessed to the crime.
A video made available online indicated that she took the NAPTIP officials to the bush where she dumped the deceased child.
The woman spoke in Igbo language while showing the NAPTIP officials where she threw the dead body.
She said: “I beat her and she started convulsing. So, I took her to Kings (hospital). Getting there, she died, so I threw her body here.”
The child’s body was already decomposing in the video shared online.
Nation Newspaper reported that, the suspect, from Enugwu-Ukwu but married in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area was arrested in a primary School in Awka where she had earlier enrolled the deceased, Ifechukwu and had gone to collect back the school fees she paid for her.
NAPTIP Public Relations Officer, Okafor Anthony reportedly said the victim died on September 29, 2022.
He said, “NAPTIP Anambra State Command arrested a 37yr old female suspect in Awka on the 5th October, 2022 for the offence of Child Abuse/inflicting grievous harm on a child, an offence prohibited in Human Trafficking Act.
“While being questioned on the whereabout of the victim, she disclosed that the victim had died. The suspect lead the operatives of NAPTIP to the scene where she disposed the body of the victim.
“On arriving the scene, the victim’s decomposing body was found wrapped in a black nylon bag where the suspect dumped her in the bush around Hezekiah Dike Crescent, Awka.
“The suspect was immediately handed over to the Police by NAPTIP Anambra State Command to investigate the death of the victim.”
