Unknown Gunmen Kill Police Officers, Road Users At Abatete In Anambra
Reports from Abatete community in the Idemili North local government area of Anambra State indicated that Unknown Gunmen have killed numbers of police escort personnel and the people they were escorting on Friday evening and set them ablaze alongside the two vehicles they were in.
Residents could be seen in the video posted online trying to quench the burning fire after the gunmen reportedly drove towards Ideani area of the State.
A voice heard on the background of the video said it could not be ascertained if the the gunmen were secessionist armed group or assassins who trailed the victims to the scene of the crime.
No group has claimed responsiblity for the attack said to have occurred around Ekeagu area of Abatete community.
Same place unknown gunmen killed and burnt to death three police officers alongside the persons they were escorting in July, 2021.
Meanwhile, Biafra Resistance Fighters have claimed responsiblity for the attacks that occurred on Tuesday night at Oba area of Anambra State, Otoko and Mbano communities in #Imo State.
The Biafra armed group claimed through their social media handle that the Tuesday attack on the Oba Police Divisional headquarters and the Oba Civic Centre, were carried out by the Biafra Resistance Fighters.
The armed group had in large numbers attacked the Oba Police Divisional headquarters and also the Oba Civic Centre, killing a police corporal and injuring others. And the whereabouts of inmates in the police cells are still on known.
Spokesperson of the Anambra state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, had said the attack was carried out by secessionist armed group.
During the Oba attack, buildings including vehicles, motorcycles and tricycle were totally razed by the armed group.
Also on Tuesday night, the Biafra armed group attacked the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area headquarters of Imo State, killing two local vigilante members who were guarding the premises.
The armed group who attacked the local government headquarters on Tuesday night, also set several vehicles parked at the council headquarters on fire.
According to witnesses, the armed group arrived at the secretariat around 8:30pm., opening fire indiscriminately and killing the two vigilante members on duty. They then set part of the council building ablaze.
One witness as reported by SaharaReporters said, “Two security personnel at the Isiala-Mbano council headquarters were killed. The attackers also torched a significant portion of the building and several vehicles. Many others sustained injuries and fled the scene.”
The attack has raised a heightened fear in Umuelemai, the local government headquarters, as residents have sought refuge in nearby villages.
Again same Tuesday night and early morning night on Wednesday, armed group attacked the Obowo Divisional Police Headquarters, killing a police officer.
It was gathered that the armed group first struck at NEPA Junction in Umulogho community on Tuesday night, where they targeted a specific police officer at his residence. After identifying him, they killed him and set his belongings on fire before fleeing.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the armed group returned and set the Obowo Divisional Police Headquarters in Otoko community ablaze.
“A local source reported that the attack on Tuesday night involved heavy gunfire that lasted for about 30 minutes, coinciding with an attack on the Isiala Mbano council headquarters.
The same source noted that a police officer was pulled from his home and killed at NEPA Junction, while a male student from the College of Nursing Sciences Umulogho was injured by a stray bullet. Other victims have yet to be identified.
The source further explained that the first attack occurred between 8pm and 9pm, with gunmen targeting a specific policeman living in the area.
They killed him, destroyed his belongings, and injured a student nurse, who was rushed to the hospital and survived. Police and soldiers later arrived to retrieve the officer’s body.
Around 3am on Wednesday, the gunmen returned and attacked the Otoko Police Divisional Headquarters, firing for approximately 30 minutes.
The extent of casualties in this second attack is still unknown as fear has prevented anyone from approaching the burned facility.
Confirming the incidents, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Henry Okoye, said, “The command has deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible for this crime”, according to SaharaReporters news network.
Claiming responsiblity for the attacks, the Biafra Resistance Fighters tweeted thus: “The terrorist slaughtering center at Oba old Anambra state was destroyed this morning by men of the Biafra Resistance fighters, BRF, BDF.
