Newly redeployed Commissioner of Police to Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye on Friday goes on confidence building patrol and visitations to Nnewi and other police formations in the state.
During the visit, the new Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye commended the Area Commander of Nnewi and other Divisional Police Officers of the various formations for maintaining high standard of having fewer suspects in their detention facilities.
It would be recalled that since the activities of Unknown Gunmen began in Anambra and other Southeast states in 2021, the men of the Nigeria Police Force may have shifted some of their responsibilities to local vigilante groups in Anambra and thus, hardly go out for arrest to avoid being a victim of Unknown Gunmen.
Residents who usually approach police stations for civil matters and not crude criminal offences hardly get police attention in the southeast states as we gathered that such complainers are usually advised to redirect their complains to the Anambra Vigilante Group, AVG. It was also gathered that only special units of men of the Nigeria Police Force empowered and well equipped to fight Unknown Gunmen usually go out for arrest and in most cases only pay attention to high profile cases like arrest of suspected unknown gunmen members. Not crude criminal offences like petty thieves, two fighting, civil misunderstanding among others are usually handled since 2021 in Anambra and other Southeast states by local vigilante groups.
According to the News release made available by the Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, the new CP met the Nnewi Area Commander and the two DPOs of Nnewi and Otolo Divisional Headquarters well dressed in police uniforms despite the fact it was already odd hours when the CP paid a surprise visit to the formations on Friday.
The Police news release reads in quote: “Police Commissioner in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye yesterday, Friday 28th July, 2023 led a formidable Patrol of Police Mobile Force and Police Counter Terrorist Unit on Patrol of the State.
“Patrol covered Enugwu Ukwu, Abagana, Eziowelle, Ojoto, Oba, Ichi, Nnewi, Ichida, Igbo Ukwu, Ekwulobia, Nanka, Agulu and Nise before terminating in Awka the State Capital.

“During the visit the Commissioner visited the cells in all the Formations and was pleased to observe that only few suspects were in detention and none had overstayed.
