Nnamdi Kanu Wears One Shirt, One Trouser Almost One Year
Two months from now, the rearrested and detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will be on record for wearing one shirt and one trouser for one year.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who was rearrested June last year in Kenya, has not changed his Fendi designer’s clothes he wore since he was arrested and brought back to Nigeria.
December last year, the presiding Judge of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Justice Binta Nyaku ordered the Department of State Services, DSS to ensure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu change his clothes.
Justice Binta Nyaku had said: “I don’t want to see him in these clothes again. This one is almost off-white. Also, make sure that you allow him to exercise,”.
But at the resumed hearing in February, 2022, Mike Ozekhome, the lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, complained to the court that the DSS have refused to allow Kanu a change of clothes contrary to a definite order of the court that he must be allowed to wear a new outfit.
He added that, thrice, Kanu’s younger brother has been refused access to DSS facility where Kanu was detained.
The lead counsel also said that since Kanu was arrested and detained, his eye glass was seized by the DSS and has not been returned to him. He asks that his Glasses, be returned to him so he doesn’t go blind.
Justice Binta Nyaku responded to Ozekhome’s complaint by thus asking the Prosecuting counsel, Shuaibu Labaran to provide explanations to the issue and Labaran said thus:
“My Lord, clothes that were brought for the defendant had lion’s head embroiled on them, and the defendant (Mr Kanu) can’t wear clothes with a lion’s head.
“Clothes with lion’s head offend the standard operating procedures of the SSS”.
The judge then asked the type of cloth Kanu prefers to wear.
In response, Kanu said, “I want to wear the clothes of my people, “Isi Agu.”
The court, however, refused his request but asked the DSS to provide Kanu with his eyes glasses which his lawyers said was taken away from him.
Nnamdi Kanu was still seen on same clothes on Friday, April 8, 2022.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu case is being adjourned to 17, 18 and 26th of May 2022.
