Police Arrests Fake ‘Ghost’ In Adamawa
Men of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a man faking to be a ghost to defraud members of the public in Adamawa state.
According to Adamawa state Police Command, the 59 years old fake ghost was on arrested on Monday for frequently defrauding members of the public.
“The suspect, Muhammad Abubakar also known as Malam Sabo is said to be an habitual 419 who specializes in defrauding Members of the public in a disguised manner.
Mostly, the suspect hides his identity, pretending to be a Ghost, talking to his Victims with different voices.
The suspect, at times changes his voice sound to that of a woman or a child to dupe his victims. Recently he tricked and duped one Abba Bale of Demsawo of the sum of three Hundred thousand (₦300,000.00)”, the Police Command said.
Meanwhile, police operatives have killed a suspected notorious Bandit and kidnapper in Abuja.
In a statement made available on Tuesday, the police public relations unit said “At about 10:15 hours on the 5th of February 2024, operatives of the DFI-IRT, acting on intelligence, got information on the hideout of a notorious bandit group in the surbub of the FCT, led by one Isa Dei-Dei and immediately proceded to the location for possible arrest.
Upon closing in on them, they sighted the police and fled. The operatives immediately went after them, which led to a fierce gun duel. In the process, the notorious Isa Dei-Dei was neutralized while other members of the syndicate managed to escape with gunshot injuries.
We therefore urge members of the public, most especially medical practitioners, to call our attention to anyone or patients seen with gunshot wounds for further investigation”.
Following the security challenges in Nigeria, the former Inspector-General of Police and present Chairman, Police Service Commission, Dr Solomon Arase, on 6th February, 2024, led a team of retired Senior Police Officers under the aegis of the Police Veterans’ Foundation, a new foundation which will be launched on the 5th of March, 2024 in Abuja, paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Spokesperson, said: “the team comprised the President, Association of Retired Police Officers (ARPON), DIG Mohammed Aminu Yesufu (Retired) who was in charge of Planning and Infotech (F Department) as it then was; CP Isah Grema (Rtd.) amongst others.
The short meeting in the office of the IGP centred on the plans of the foundation to assist in the areas of facilitating improved welfare for both serving and retired Police officers, partnering with the police on reviewing training manuals and curriculum across board, supporting the police by volunteering as instructors in the various colleges and training schools, etc.
The IGP while reacting, appreciated the group and promised to key into the plans of the Police Veteran’s Foundation as such will go a long way to standardize the operating procedures of the Force”.
Also on the security challenges, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun during the week ordered the reactivation of Police Smartforce DataBase System as part of his digitalization drive for the Police Force to ensure all officers have their details captured and stored for record purposes and to ease administrative bottlenecks, create ease in tracking postings/transfers, and issue Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Cards for personnel identification.
ACP Olumuiwa said: “The main objective of the database is to tremendously enhance the competence and effective service delivery in all areas of policing, most especially in the smooth administrative management of the Nigeria Police Force as a whole. The system, which is integrated with modern technology and state of the art appliances, will reduce reliance on manual and burdensome traditional administrative methods; thereby ensuring an effective management of the workforce of force.
While reiterating his vision for a Police driven by the integration of cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence (AI), the Inspector-General of Police, orders immediate commencement of the digitalization process across all Commands and Formations of the Force for timeous upgrade and operation of the system and charges all officers to enrol for the process at their various commands formations across the country”.
Recap of police recent activities indicated that in furtherance of the Police’s zeal to safeguard Nigeria’s, and by extension, global cyber space, the Nigeria Police National CyberCrime Centre, on Thursday, 1st February 2024, advancing on the heels of a clinical investigation, arraigned one Wilfred Bonse before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
“The suspect, one Bonse, a resident of Flat 6 block 9, Aso garden Estate karsana, Abuja, allegedly participated in a case of conspiracy to commit computer-related fraud, money laundering and sundry offenses to the tone of 50 million naira contrary to sections Section 14(1) of the Cybercrime (prohibition, prevention, ETC) Act ,2015, Sections 20(a)(b) & 21(a) of the money laundering (prevention and prohibition) Act, 2022.
The arraignment was a step further in the pursuit of justice in the investigation of Patricia security breach. The case is also a boost to the relentless efforts of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre to combat cyber and cyber-enabled crime and financial fraud in the country and beyond.
The court ruled that the suspect be remanded at the correctional facility until the next date of hearing.
The Inspector General of Police IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun while reiterating the unwavering commitment of the Force to upholding the law and ensuring justice for all, has directed the Force National Cybercrime Center under the leadership of CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry to keep trailblazing trends in alignment with global best practices in combating Cyber and cyber-enabled crime in its dynamics.

On recent kidnapping in Ekiti State, the police authority said the kidnapped victims have been released. “We wish to inform the general public that the five school children, including their teachers, who were kidnapped on 29/01/2024 in Emure-Ekiti, have been rescued unhurt, 4th February, 2024.
We therefore commend and appreciate the efforts of the government, our Police operatives and other security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and individuals, as well as family members, for their understanding and resilience”, the police sai.
On the reports of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province, Iswap terrorists attacking the Police headquarters in Maiduguri, the Borno State Police Command addressed and refuted the claims that went viral on social media and across other platforms.
“The Command categorically states that the information being disseminated by certain mischievous individuals is entirely false and lacks any factual basis. The State Command Headquarters in Maiduguri remains secure and operational, with no incidents of attack reported.
The public is strongly urged to dismiss the aforementioned misleading information, as the situation at the State Command Headquarters Maiduguri is stable and devoid of any disruptions.
Commissioner of Police, CP M Yusufu, expresses heartfelt condolences to the families of four gallant police officers who tragically lost their lives while defending the Police Quarters in Gajiram Town, Nganzai Local Government Area. The incident occurred on the night of 2nd February 2024, at approximately 23:13 hours, when unknown gunmen launched an attack.
