Men of the Nigeria Police Force has rescued a kidnapped victim at Onitsha, a commercial city in Anambra State, Nigeria.
The Anambra State Police command in a news release signed and made available by the command spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said that the Police Operatives attached to Area Command Headquarters, Onitsha while on township patrol on 30th August 2023 received a distress call at about 9.30 pm of a kidnap incident around Borromeo Roundabout.
The statement reads thus: “The Operatives responded to the distress call and caught up with a shuttle bus in which the kidnapped victim was held.
“The highly trained operatives professionally engaged the kidnappers in a shootout without harming the hostage who was rescued unhurt.
“Two suspects were arrested at the scene while others managed to escape with gunshot wounds. The Police team recovered one Barreta pistol, nine rounds of 9MM live ammunition, and a shuttle bus without number plates which the criminals used for the kidnap operation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, while commending Police Operatives for the remarkable feat, charged them to intensify efforts aimed at apprehending the fleeing gang members. He also called on hospitals in the area to report anyone presenting gunshot injuries while treatment is ongoing to save lives”.
Meanwhile, the Police in Ogidi, Anambra State have busted a 4-man burglary gang that targets commercial shops across the State.
According to the police, while acting on a tip-off received on 30th August, 2023 the operatives stormed the hideout of the gang and cordoned it off to prevent escape of any of the gang members.
The statement reads further that “Four suspects, all of them from Ebonyi State were arrested while the following items were recovered from them: “Two ‘Ladies Motorcycles’, Two Big Generators
One Wheelbarrow, One Deep Freezer, Three Bags of Rice and Two Large Iron Cutters.
“On Interrogation, the suspects confessed to have broken into a store at Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State to steal the recovered items.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye who commended the newly posted DPO in Ogidi, CSP Uche Onyinaya, for hitting the ground running, having earlier arrested and recovered a Baretta Pistol from a cultist, asked the personnel not to relent in their pursuit of criminal elements. He has directed that investigation be extended to Nanka to locate owner of the store and Motor Licensing Office for records of owners of the motorcycles with a view to returning the recovered items to the rightful owners on bond while suspects are to be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded”.
