President Vladimir Putin of Russia has confirmed the death of the founder of Wagner private military group, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Yevgeny Prigozhin died alongside other Wagner Commanders on Wednesday in a plane crash suspected to be caused by bombing.
Putin described Prigozhin as a man of complex fate, but talented, noting, he made great contributions in the fight against Ukraine.
President Putin expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the yesterday’s plane crash in the Tver region, in which the founder of the group, Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin also died.
The Russia President also announced that the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia informed him about the beginning of the investigation into the plane crash.
Statement by President Putin on the plane crash in the Tver region reads in quote thus:
“He had a difficult fate, he made serious mistakes in his life. And he achieved the necessary results both for himself and when I asked him to do so for the common goal, as happened in recent months.
“I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the families of all the victims. It’s always a tragedy.
“Wagner made a significant contribution to the fight against Nazism in Ukraine, we will never forget this.
“Primary data indicate that employees of the Wagner company were also there [on the crashed plane]. I would like to note that these are people who have made a significant contribution to our fight against the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine. We remember it, we know it and we will not forget it.
“I have known Prigozhin for a long time, since the early 1990s. He was a man of difficult fate, and his mistakes were serious, but he achieved results, including for a common cause. He was a very talented person, a talented businessman.”
