
Uneasy Calm In Bayelsa As Militants Overpower Tompolo’s Boys, Snatch Speed Boat
Reports from Bayelsa State have indicated that there is currently tension at Aleibiri community in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of the State, following Thursday attack on Government Tompolo led crude Oil surveillance team by yet to be identified militants group.
It was gathered that the attack occurred on Thursday afternoon.
We also learnt that the militants went away with the surveillance speed boat, said to be 200 horse power capacity engine.
Photographs from the community show group of people with guns moving from street to streets in Aleibiri. The group is said to be members of the Tantita Security, a surveillance network owned by ex militant, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, mainly known as Tompolo.
It would be recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Muhammadu Buhari awarded 4 billion naira crude oil surveillance contract to Government Tompolo to secure oil pipelines in the Nigeria Niger Delta region.
A development that didn’t go down well with some of the ex militants, who demanded a share in the oil surveillance contract.
Details of the attack is still scanty as at the time of filling in this report. No death has been reported.
Residents said the coordinator of the Tantita Security Unit in Aleibiri was able to calm the situation, and also prevented it from escalation.
Government Tompolo is yet to issue statement over the attack.
