Will Smith Goes The Bianca Way With Chris Rock But Apologizes With Tears
On Thursday March 17, 2022, news platforms across the world were awash with the act of Nigeria former Beauty Queen and Widow of the Nigeria-Biafra Civil war lord, Bianca Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu who slapped the outgoing governor wife’s, Ebelechukwu Obiano during the swearing-in ceremony of Professor Charles Soludo as the new governor of Anambra State.
Bianca said she slapped Ebelechukwu Obiano for using unkind words on her but the outgoing governor wife’s, Ebelechukwu said she only approached Bianca in their usual play-play or joke manner
Less than two weeks after the display of uncontrollable anger by the former beauty queen, globally recognized America comic actor, Will Smith lost his temper and with anger went on stage during the 94th Oscars award ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 27, 2022 to slap Chris Rock, also an America actor for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
After the slap, Will Smith went back to his seat and with anger said: “Keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth”.
The comedian, Chris Rock was on hand to present the trophy for best documentary, which went to Summer of Soul, but things took a turn when he directed a comment to Jada, who was in the crowd beside her husband.
“Jada, can’t wait for G.I Jane 2”, he said, referring to her buzz cut – the actress has been praised for being so honest and open concerning her alopecia condition.
Just after the slap, Chris Rock shouted: “Oh wow, Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me,’
A shaken Chris also told the crowd:
“Wow dude. It was a G.I Jane joke”.
“Keep my wife’s name out your fucking mouth,’ Will Smith furiously yelled from his seat, as the audience fell silent.
“I’m going to, okay… I’ll keep going? That was, er, the greatest night in the history of television”, Chris responded.
Unlike Bianca Ojukwu who refused to apologize, and also went to the media with all boldness to say she gave Ebelechukwu Obiano a dirty slap, Will Smith tendered apology immediately while speaking during the acceptance speech of his maiden Oscars award as the Best Actor for his role as Richard Williams in the biopic”King Richard”.
Will Smith apologized to the Academy and fellow nominees in a tear-filled speech.
Smith, who played the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, referenced the confrontation without mentioning or apologizing to Rock directly.
Will Smith said thus:
“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world”
Emphasizing that, like Richard Williams in the film, he protects the ones he loves.
“I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care and concern. I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees,” Smith continued.
“Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. “But love will make you do crazy things.”
