
19 Dead As Plane Crashes Into River In Tanzania
Nineteen dead bodies have been recovered from Lake Victoria as rescuers continued to make efforts to bring to safety 53 persons onboard Precision Air that crashed into the river in the early hours of Sunday morning in Tanzania.
Videos from scene of the incident showed dead bodies rescued out from the water.
It was gathered that rescue workers and local fishermen have been able to rescue over 26 persons out of the river alive.
We learnt, the plane was flying from Tanzania’s biggest city, Das es Salaam, to a local town of Bukoba.
The small passenger plane operated by Tanzania’s Precision Air crashed into the river while attempting to land in a stormy conditions at Bukoba Airport, according to aviation workers.
Tanzania Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa confirmed the numbers of death at Bukoba Airport.
“All Tanzanians are with you in mourning the 19 people who lost lives during this accident,” Majaliwa said.
Regional Commissioner, Kagera, Albert Chalamila, earlier said that 26 survivors out of the 53 people on board the flight had been pulled to safety and taken to hospital in the lakeside city in Kagera region.
“We are continuing to investigate, there is a possibility that two people were not onboard but died during the rescue effort,” said Albert Chalamila.
