Former Presidential Spokesperson to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri has said that the reported recommendation of the Inspector General of Police Usman Baba for the suspension of DCP Abba Kayri is a good first step but more have to be done.

DCP Abba Kayri, the Commander of the Inspector General of Police Intellingence Response Team was declared wanted in a fraud case allegedly committed by Ramon Abbas also known as Huspuppi in the United States of America.

According to PUNCH Newspaper some hours ago, the commissioner of Police in charge of Forces Public Relations, Frank Mba made the disclosure this morning that Inspector General of Police has recommended the suspension of DCP Abba Kayri from the activities of the Nigeria Police Force pending the outcome of the investigation into the DCP alleged involvement in $1.1 million internet fraud by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.

The IGP in a letter reportedly dated July 31, 2021 addressed to Police Service Commission, indicated that Special Investigation Panel comprising four senior police officers, headed by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike, has been set up to investigate the allegations against Kyari.

The FBI criminal report tried at the United States District Court in California listed Abbas Ramon, also known as Hushpuppi; DCP Abba Kyari, Abdulrahman Juma, Vincent Kelly Chibuzo, Rukayat Motunrayo Fashola, and Bolatito Tawakalitu Agbabiaka among the six suspects indicted in a $1.1m international fraud conspiracy.

The recommendation for suspension of Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari, by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, is a good first step. More needs to be done. The investigation needs to be thorough and devoid of ethnic and religious considerations. This is beyond Kyari. This is about Nigeria’s image. The public is already in possession of the text message exchanges between Kyari and Hushpuppi, and the numbers have been verified by TrueCaller. So, any attempt at sweeping this under the carpet will be an epic fail. Kyari can spend his suspension sewing natives.
