Nigeria Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sent All Progressives Congress, APC Senator, Ishaku Abbo packing from the National Assembly.

The Appeal Court in its rulling on Monday as widely reported by mainstream media nullified the victory of Senator Ishaku Abbo and declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Amos Yohanna winner of the 2023 Adamawa North senatorial election.

It would be recalled that lower election Tribunal court had earlier upheld the victory of Senator Ishaku Abbo and affirmed him the authentic winner of the February 25th general elections until few hours ago the Appeal Court ruled in favor of the the opposition party.

Amos Kumai Yohanna of PDP had in a petition filed at the tribunal sitting in Yola, challenged the election of Senator Abbo as the winner of the election. In the petition marked, EPT/AD/SEN/02/2023, Kumai alleged that the election of Abbo was invalid.

Adding that, Abbo’s winning was characterised by corrupt practices and non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. Insisting that Abbo was not duly elected by the majority of lawful votes cast during the election.

The PDP candidate had alleged that there were cases of over voting at various polling units, false entries, alteration and cancellation of votes at several polling units among others.

Kumai said some of the cancellations were not signed by the presiding officers of the polling units, and therefore prayed the tribunal to set aside the election of Senator Abbo.

Senator Ishaku Abbo reacted to the judgement of the Court of Appeal via Facebook, saying, he’s going to address the press shortly.

He said, “The Appeal Court in Abuja just voided my election. The gang up have temporarily worked. I will soon address the press.”
