
Bandits Kill DPO, Others, Abduct Women In Zamfara
Bandits in the early hours of Sunday morning attacked the Headquarters of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing the Divisional Police Officer, an Inspector, vigilante and kidnapped numbers of women.
It was gathered that during the attack, the Divisional Police Officer of the Local Government, Kazeem Raheem, mobilized his men and some local vigilantes to repel the bandits.
However, the DPO, a sergeant named Rabiu Bagobiri and one vigilante official identified as Shehu Chuka, were killed in the process.
According to the Police, the bandits invaded Maru Division to create chaos and abduct members of the community.
However, the Officers attached to the Division repelled them, and the DPO, SP Kazeem Kareem, and Inspector Rabiu Umar paid the supreme price.
The Command Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said: “On March 5, 2023, around 2 a.m, gunmen in large numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked Maru Division with intent to destabilise the security architecture of the town in order to easily attack and abduct members of the community.
“However, the late DPO and team gallantly put up a strong resistance to repel the attackers. Unfortunately, he and Inspector Rabiu lost their lives while protecting the public.
“The Commissioner of Police has deployed reinforcement to pursue the fleeing hoodlums and arrest them for investigation and prosecution.”
“While the Command prays for the repose of the departed souls and fortitude for their families and relations to bear the irreparable loss, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, DCP Iliyasu Kwarbai, led another Police tactical team to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and confidence-building patrol”, the Police Spokesperson said.
