
Ihiala: Week Of Terror In Anambra As Unknown Gunmen Take Over Ojukwu University
It was a week of terror in different locations in Anambra state as Unknown Gunmen suspected to be members of the Biafra secessionist armed group took over Anambra State Government owned tertiary institution, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, a renowned Nigeria soldier who led the people of Igbo tribes to demand for Biafra Republic that led to Nigeria civil war on July 6, 1967 to January 15, 1970 with millions including children killed.
Anambra state House of Assembly passed a resolution in 2014 that was approved by the then state governor to rename the Anambra State University located at Uli community in the Ihiala local government area of the state, to honour the late soldier, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
We learnt, the war began on Monday night between Unknown Gunmen and Ebubeagu security operatives.
Residents from Ammaputu quarters in Uli community and its environs said the heavy gun battle forced many of them to flee their homes Monday night.
According to the residents, they were surprised to see Unknown Gunmen in large numbers in the morning of Tuesday gathered at School front, a description used to describe the entrance gate of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
Unknown Gunmen shot sporadically, making students and other residents around the school environment to scamper for safety with many sustaining injuries, according to statements from residents.
Residents added that the Unknown Gunmen met little or no resistance in the morning and thereafter, some hours, withdrew.
Few hours after retreating, residents said the Unknown Gunmen regrouped around 4pm on Tuesday evening at the school front.
This time, we gathered that the Divisional Police Headquarters at Uli, not too far from the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University was threatened or trapped during the gun battle.
Security sources said the situation forced special gallant police officers to be mobilized to the troubled area.
The special gallant police officers first provided a support back up to the special military checkpoint along the Onitsha-Owerri road at Uli, and after sometime, advanced to the school front to engage the Unknown Gunmen.
Videos posted online show the gallant police officers engaging the Unknown Gunmen gallantly around the school environment.
Security sources said the gun battle between the police and Unknown Gunmen lasted till 11pm, leaving blood stains along the streets of Uli community.
Meanwhile, different set of the unknown gunmen also engaged men of the Nigerian Army at Umuchu community in Aguata local government area of Anambra State, reportedly killed over three soldiers on Monday evening.
Umuchu is a border town between Anambra and Imo states. It has a road, connecting Umunze, in the Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Videos posted online on Tuesday morning, shows over three Unknown Gunmen with charms tied on their bodies killed by soldiers at Umunze, according to residents.
Information indicated that the overconfident Unknown Gunmen engaged soldiers on Tuesday morning at Umunze with so much trust on the charms or mental physical power fortified with. But unfortunately, the soldiers bullets penetrated into their bodies, three became lifeless, which thus, forced others to flee.
