No More School On Fridays In Kaduna – Governor Nasir El-Rufai

Kaduna State Government led by Governor Nasir El-Rufai has directed all public schools in the state to migrate to 4 days lesson in a week.

This was contained in a memo credited to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Education, Honourable Halima Lawal dated January 8, 2022; addressed to all public school authorities in the state.

Kaduna State Government under the leadership of Nasir El-rufai had earlier commenced the removal of Friday as working day for workers in the state on December 1st, 2021.

Kaduna State Government in the earlier directive titled; “KDSG Begins Transition To Four-day Working Week From 1st December 2021” and signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye indicated that all public servants, other than those in schools and healthcare facilities, will work from home on Fridays.

But the latest statement credited to the Commissioner of Education, Honourable Halima Lawal shows schools that were earlier not included are now made to close operations on Fridays.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai said his decision to remove Fridays as working day in the state is a measure designed to help boost productivity, improve work-life balance and enable workers to have more time for their families, for rest and for agriculture.

But many are on the opinion that the Governor’s decision may be influenced by religion.

Some of the concerned citizens said Friday is usually a day of worship for the muslims and Governor Nasir El-Rufai who is also a muslim may considered it necessary to remove Friday as working days since government all over the country don’t recognize Sunday, which is usually a day of worship for the christians as a working day.

Statement from the Kaduna State Commissioner of Education reads thus:

The Kaduna State Government wishes to inform parents, guardians and the public that the resumption date for the 2nd term of the 2021/2022 academic session earlier slated for Monday, January 10th, 2022 remains unchanged.

The Ministry of Education expects all Principals and Head Teachers to receive boarding students on Sunday 9th of January 2022 and day students on Monday, 10th of January 2022 respectively.

Furthermore, all public schools are to migrate to the 4-day working week while the 2021/2022 academic calendar would be adjusted to ensure coverage of the curriculum for the academic session.

The Ministry further advises parents, guardians and students to comply with public health guidelines by adopting all protective measure against COVID-19.

Additionally, administrators and proprietors of public and private schools and other learning centres, including Islamiyya and Madrasas, are encouraged to sustain school-based security committees set up last term and to continue ensuring safety of students in schools.

The Safe School Learning Initiatives should be adhered to as directed by the Federal Ministry of Education.

Members of the school security committee should ensure proper monitoring of security apparatus and prompt reporting of any security threats in their schools by calling the following numbers: 09034000060 or 08170189999.
