
NPF Speaks As Police Kills Lawyer On Christmas Day In Lagos
Nigeria Police Force has reacted to the killing of innocent Nigerians in the Ajah area of Lagos State by it men, promising to reappraise its rules of engagement to put an end to the ugly incidents.
The Nigeria Police through the Lagos State Command in a press statement few minutes ago, sympathized with the families, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem who was killed on Christmas day celebration in the Ajah area of Lagos while the deceased lawyer sat beside her husband in the vehicle.
The killing of Barrister Bolanle Raheem is barely three weeks, an innocent young man was also shot dead by the police in the same Ajah area of Lagos State.
The Police press statement issued by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force reads thus:
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem who was shot dead by a police officer in Ajah on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
“On the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, the errant officer has since been taken into custody alongside his team members. The CP has equally directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for in-depth investigation.
“This has become one too many, especially bearing in mind that a similar incident occurred at the same location less than three weeks ago.
“The condemnable incident is against the standard operating procedures (SOP) and rules of engagement of the Force, and to say the least is embarrassing.
“Beyond this incident, the Nigeria Police Force will carry out a reappraisal of its rules of engagement in a bid to put an end to such avoidable ugly incidents”
The lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, at the Ajiwe area of Ajah, Lagos State, on Christmas Day.
The deceased, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem is a member of the Lagos Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
It was gathered that the family was on its way back from church when She was shot at close range by a police officer.the incident happened under the Ajah bridge and near the police station as
According to the deceased’s colleague, her husband slowed down and was waiting for the car infront of them to move so he could park properly.
“My boss Barrister Omobolanle Raheem was shot dead by a police officer on her way back from Christmas service at Ajah under bridge.
“Her family just called me now, that they need a lawyer to stand in for them before the police changes the narrative.
“They have taken the matter to Ajiwe Police Station. The police officer is from Ajiwe station.
“Her husband was the one driving, Barrister Omobolanle was seated in the front with her husband.
“The officer asked them to park and they needed the vehicle in front to move so they can park well, and immediately the police officer shot at a close range right into her chest.
“On seeing what happened, the remaining police officers on duty there absconded.
“After a while, some policemen came and moved her body to the mortuary in Yaba, without obtaining any consent from her family members.
“Currently her family has located where they moved her body to.
“I am currently not in Lagos. I thought of bringing this to you for your assistance and guidance,” she said via social media post.
