Peter Obi: Kwankwaso Should Get Sense Of History – Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri, former Presidential Spokesperson to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on New Media, has called on the Presidential Candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso to get sense of history, and understand that, the people of Igbo tribe are not bottom feeders in the Nigeria politics.
Reno Omokri made the call on Sunday after the NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso described the refusal of the Presidential candidate of Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi to accept to be his running mate, in the forthcoming 2023 general election, as a missed gold opportunity for the people of Southeast region to be relevant in the Nigeria politics.
Rabiu Kwankwaso made the statement on Saturday in Gombe State, after inaugurating the state secretariat of the NNPP and repeated some of the lines on Sunday, during an interview with Channels Television, Politics Today programme.
Kwankwaso who described Igbos as bottom feeders in politics, said thus:
“I like people of the South-East so much that the Kwankwaso, Kwankwasiyya you hear, many thought it Okonkwo and sons. They said because an Hausa man can’t say Okonkwo and sons, he now turned it to Kwankwaso.
“The South-East is good in terms of business, very hard working and industrious, but one area they must learn is politics. They are at the bottom line.
“If you look at the situation, they have lost out with APC and PDP; no President, no Vice President. The only opportunity the South East has to be President or Vice is with the NNPP. Coincidentally, the party was registered by an Igbo man from Anambra State.
“This is the only golden opportunity that they have. If they lose this opportunity, it will be a disaster. You see the young men and women who keep saying they are marginalised whereas no one is marginalising them because it (politics) is based on calculation.
“Someone was telling me that even if our friend (Peter Obi) wants to withdraw to accept VP, some people in the South East will not accept. All sorts of thinking which is not strategic.”
“The best for the South East is to come and partner. Maybe after eight years, after our term, that is the only time they will say okay he is the best for the country.
“Eight years is just like eight days or months but if you are not prepared for it, it will come and leave you worse.
“We are flexible to get the right person. One of them is the Labour Party man (Peter Obi) you are talking about.”
Reno Omokri described the NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso statement as one not well thought out.
Reno Omokri said:
“That statement by Kwankwaso was not well thought out.
“I respect Kwankwaso, but to use such adjectives to describe the Southeast is rather unfortunate.
“I truly hope he reconsiders his statement and issues an apology. We are all Nigerians. Nobody is a bottom feeder!
“Kwankwaso should get a sense of history.
“It is on record that when Nigeria had values, the NCNC, led by Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Igbo man, was winning elections all over Nigeria and the Cameroon, including in Kano and the Western Region. Igbos are no bottom feeders!
“Boko Haram and herders have been killing other Nigerians. Have we criminalized any ethnicities because of them?
“His words were so hurtful. How can he just generalize against all Igbos like that?”
