Police Arrests, Names Officers Who Allegedly Dragged Passenger To POS Point To Steal N25,000

Following the Nigeria Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba’s order issued to the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State to investigate a public petition against the men of the Nigeria Police Force who were accused of dragging a passenger out of Big Joe motor along Abuja-Okene road in Kogi state, forced the passenger to POS point and forcefully collected the sum of 25 thousand naira from the victim, the police has announced the arrest of the police personnel and published the names of the crime suspects.
The Police appealed to the victims to reach the Kogi state Command through a phone number; “08107899269”.
The police the officers accused of the crime have been detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.
Excerpts of the press statement issued by DSP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer incharge of Kogi State Command:
The Kogi State Police Command has commenced investigations into a trending video where Police personnel attached to Adogo Division, while on patrol duty along Adogo-Okene road, reportedly extorted the sum of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N25,000) from a traveller while another was physically assaulted by one of the men in uniform.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, while condemning the incident, noted that the Police officers have been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department.
The officers are: ASP Isah Barnabas, Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin, Sergeant Emmanuel Ochima and CPL Umameh Mathias who physically assaulted one of the travellers.
The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been issued an official query while the three (3) other junior officers are currently undergoing orderly room trial (Police internal disciplinary actions).
The CP further noted that the Command is doing its best to establish contact with the victims. He enjoined the victims to reach out to the Command thorough 08107899269.
He assured that any of the officers found wanting in the investigations would be dealt with accordingly.

It woud be recalled a man whose voice could be heard in the backgroud of a viral video has narrated how some men of the Nigeria Police Force patrolling the Abuja-Okene road in Kogi state dragged a man out of Big Joe motor, forced him to POS point and forcefully collected the sum of 25 thousand naira.
The narrator said the police acted as if they were kidnappers as the victim was asked to put a call to his family, the family transfered the money into his account, one of the police men quickly undress the police uniform and took the boy to a POS point in Okene town to withdraw the 25 thousand naira.
