A retired Air Force officer, Zakari Umaru-Kigbu has been killed by gunmen who invaded his house in Nasarawa on Saturday night.
Umaru-Kigbu, who is also a former Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, NPC has been buried according to Islamic rites.
Umaru-Kigbu was killed at his residence in Azuba Bashayi, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa and two of her daughters abducted.
A source confirmed that the kidnappers had also demanded 50 million naira ransom for the release of his kidnapped daughters.
Umaru-Kigbu, 60, was a retired Air Force officer and agent to governorship aspirant, Labaran Maku in the recently held primary election.
“He was an agent of a governorship aspiriant, Labaran Maku, in the recent Guber primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Although Maku later withdrew from the guber race”, man said anonymously.
Umaru-Kigbu was also a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, lsa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia (IMAP), and former NPC federal commissioner, covering Nasarawa State.
Spokesperson of the Nasarawa State Police Command, ASP Ramhan Nansel, reportedly said the command got a distress call at 12.20am on Sunday, adding that investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Nansel said two of the deceased’s daughters were Kidnapped by the gunmen.
“We responded to the distress call and immediately deployed our partrol teams of the command and the military also drafted its men to the scene of the incident to support the Nigeria Police Force, so as to rescue the two daughters of the deceased unhurt. The command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators”, he said.
It was gathered that, Umaru-Kigbu was rushed to Dalhatu Raf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, where he died.
