Edo State Government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki has made known plans by the government to start arresting parents, guardians of children who are out of school in the state effect from next week Monday, September 12, 2022.
Governor Godwin Obaseki disclosed this while speaking during the week in a public event held in the state, video of it made available by the governor’s media team on Wednesday.
According to Governor Godwin Obaseki, he does not want to see any child at the age of eighteen below being used for street trading, hawking, sales or other forms of child labour in the state.
Governor Obaseki said effect from September 12, 2022, any child seen out of school in the state, the parents or guardians will be arrested and prosecuted.
Governor Obaseki thanked the Chief Judge of Edo State for setting up of special courts for the trial and prosecution of offenders.
Governor Obaseki noted that all schools will resume on Monday and thereby warned teachers to ensure they commence teaching same day.
Emphasizing that, he has set up monitoring team, including him and other members of the State Executive Council to go round on Monday to ensure teachers commence teaching same day of resumption.
