
We Didn’t Invade Godwin Emefiele’s Office, CBN Governor Not Arrested – DSS
Department of State Services, DSS has refuted the speculations going round on social media that its men invaded the office of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele and arrested the apex bank Governor.
DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, in a statement few hours ago said the secret services did not arrest the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
DSS spokesman described the reports of invasion of the CBN Governor office and arrest as fake and misleading.
“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the round that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its Governor, today 16 January 2023.
“This is fake news and quite misleading,” the statement read.
DSS of recent came after the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele whom they took to court for alleged terrorism financing.
The DSS action against the CBN Governor is coming barely few days after the CBN Governor announced withdrawal limit inline the apex bank monetary policies of introducing new naira notes of 200, 500 and 1000 denominations.
DSS had approached an Abuja High court, seeking warrant to arrest the CBN governor over alleged terrorism financing and economic crimes of national security.
Justice Maryam Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory High Court Abuja, quashed and thrown out the requests made by the DSS.
Justice Maryam Hassan thereafter barred the DSS from arresting, inviting, or detaining the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Maryam Hassan declared the terrorism allegations against the CBN governor by the DSS as vindictive, callous, oppressive, void and of no effect.
