Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has commended and extolled the qualities of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, describing the former army chief as the kind of leaders needed in the current security situation in Nigeria.

Governor Obaseki stated this today when the former Chief of Army staff, Tukur Buratai paid him a visit while in the state to inaugurate the Buratai Centre for Contemporary Security Affairs named after him by Igbinedion University, Okada.

OsazuwaAkonedo reports Tukur Buratai is considered by many as the worst Chief of Army Staff in the history of Nigeria; under his administration, terrorists group often referred to as bandits spring up and wax stronger.

To many, the poor foundation laid by Tukur Buratai has made bandits and other armed groups to bring the current Nigeria soldiers into ridicules with bandits now attacking, kidnapping and killing Nigeria soldiers inside army barrack.

Tukur Buratai leadership to many is considered to have high record of human rights abuses making secessionists agitating for the creation of Biafra by people of mostly Igbo origin and Yoruba Nation by the Yorubas to get a boost.

President Muhammadu Buhari removed Tukur Buratai as Chief of Army Staff and other service chiefs at a time youths from the southeastern part of Nigeria under the umbrella body of Eastern Security Network displayed dangerous weapons acquired to protect the people of the zone against killer fulani heardsmen terrorizing several places in Nigeria.

Governor Obaseki said the foundation laid by Tukur Buratai is what it’s been built on today in Nigeria.

“While addressing the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin and former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (retired), during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City, I expressed optimism that the country will overcome its present security challenges.

“In extolling Buratai for his service to the nation, I stressed that the foundation he laid as Chief of Army Staff is what we are building on today.

“As a state, we will continue to work with the national authorities. Like I always say; Nigeria has come to stay. We are facing our challenges like other countries and communities in the world and that is where we need leaders like the ex-Army chief”.
