Enugu Killings: Reno Omokri Accuses Peter Obi Of Keeping Mum
Political analyst and commentator, Reno Omokri has accused the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the last concluded Nigeria general election and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi of keeping mum over the killing of policemen in Enugu State.
Reno Omokri accused Peter Obi of quick to react to crimes committed in other parts of Nigeria but will keep mute on crimes that occurred in the Southeastern states.
“When soldiers were killed in Delta State on March 16, 2024, Peter Obi immediately condemned the incident and called for speedy action against the killers the same day.
When there were killings of civilians and soldiers in Plateau on December 26, 2023, Mr Obi instantly condemned the act and called for a rapid response on the same day.
But a whole week after two policemen and three neighbourhood watch vigilantes were killed by suspected IPOB/ESN, Peter Obi has remained silent. Not even a sqeuak.
And that is the pattern with Obi. If it occurs in the North or Southwest, Peter will join Oby Ezekwesili, and the two of them will dance the waltz naked in public. But if it happens in Igboland, their lips are sealed.
Betta Edu is accused by political opponents and Obi calls for serious investigation. Honourable Dominic Okafor is allegedly fingered by Binance for $150 million bribe, and Obi is missing in action. Demolition in Lagos is “ethnic baiting”. But demolition in Anambra gets no reaction. Second Niger Bridge is good to Obi. However, Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is bad. Deborah Samuel’s murder in Sokoto is ‘heinous’, but the burning of Chinedu and Omama in Onitsha gets no mention.
I repeat, Obi lacks the nationalism and patriotism to treat all Nigerians equally. Thst is why he went to Kaduna and defended ESN. The same ESN that he has refused to condemn after their latest Enugu killings”, Reno Omokri stated in quote.
We had earlier reported that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has promised to reward any informat who could provide information about the unknown gunmen who killed two policemen on Friday night in the state with the sum of ₦10 million.
Governor Mabah while speaking with newsmen on Saturday shortly after holding emergency state security council meeting with the state heads of security agencies, said preliminary information indicated that the unknown gunmen maybe members of Eastern Security Network, ESN, the armed affiliate of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
It would be recalled that the Nigeria Police Force had in a statement issued by the police spokesman in Enugu state, Daniel Ndukwe, said the two murdered policemen were on routine stop-and-search along the Presidential Road, Enugu, on Friday night when they suddenly came under attack by men who operated in three SUV jeeps.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, had ordered the deployment of the Command’s operational, tactical, and intelligence resources to sustain the ongoing operations to hunt down and bring the criminal elements to book.
According to Governor Mbah, his administration would go after the culprits with every resource at its disposal to bring the killers to book.
The Governor made the statement while briefing reporters after a State Security Council meeting at the Government House, Enugu, which also had in attendance, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu; State Director, State Security Services, Theresa Egbunu; Garrison Commander, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Brigadier General Murtala Abu; and the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Peter Ogar, among others.
Mbah said available security information pointed to men of the Eastern Security Network, a security outfit of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
Adding that the unknown gunmen came in several SUVs, among them a black Lexus SUV.
He called on members of the public to be on the lookout for the criminals and the exhibits, and report same to security agencies.
He stated in quote thus: “We just rounded off our Security Council meeting where we discussed, among other things, about the gruesome killing of our policemen – men of the Enugu State Police Command – by criminals suspected to be members of the ESN.
This bestial and cold-blooded action cannot be condoned in Enugu State. I have given my directives to the security agencies that there must be no hiding place for these criminals in Enugu State. We must use everything necessary to hunt down, arrest, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
We have also placed a bounty of ₦10 million as a reward to anyone, who would have any useful information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals.
So, I enjoin members of the public to, please, come forward, or call the police and other security agencies with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of these criminals.
We do not have room to accommodate these people, these vagabonds, and these miscreants in our state.
We are going to do everything necessary to ensure that the ultimate sacrifice made by our valiant policemen does not go in vain.
Our condolences go to the bereaved families. I will also ensure that as government, we are going to provide the necessary support to the bereaved families.
Let me just also add that those who murder our policemen or indeed any member of our security agencies may assume that they have triumphed in their evil acts. Let me inform them that we are going to come after them with everything we have”.
