Men of the Nigerian Air Force in the late hours of Saturday finally took off from Nigeria with bags of dry food, alot of mineral bottle water and medication to rescue stranded Nigerian Nationals in Sudan.
According to the statement from Nigerians In Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, the Nigerian Air Force plane departed the country for Egypt where they will coordinates the evacuation of Nigeria Nationals stranded in Sudan.
A video posted online by NIDCOM, shows NAF C 130 war transport plane being loaded with a lot of mineral bottle water, food and medications in preparation to depart to Egypt to evacuate Nigerian Nationals stranded in Sudan.
“They are going with a lot of dry food, water, Medications, etc. Our Prayers are with them”, NIDCOM said.
NIDCOM had said during the week that about 7000 nationals, including Nigerians were stranded at Egyptian border.
NIDCOM in a statement on Friday, April 28, 2023, signed and made available by Gabriel Odu, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, said in quote:
“Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM), has called on those concerned with passages and movement of persons and services along contiguous borders of Sudan to create a humane condition for about 7000 Nationals, including Nigerians to have unfettered access to their various destinations.
“Dabiri-Erewa said over 7000 nationals, including Nigerians are not being allowed to cross the border into Egypt since their arrival late Thursday evening .
“She added that the Nigerian mission in Egypt has been working tirelessly on this as the Egyptian authorities are insisting on visas by fellow Africans to transit back to their countries.
“She appealed to the Egyptian authorities to kindly allow the already traumatised travellers to transit to their final destinations in various countries in Africa”.
