Imo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has said it has made more progress in tracking down the Unknown Gunmen that are behind killings of politicians in the state in recent weeks.
Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said the command condemned the abduction and gruesome murder of the Ideato North Local Government Area Sole Administrator, Christopher Ohizu.
The Command which issued the statement during the week also said the Imo State Police Command tactical teams have started investigations into the killing of the All Progressives Congress Chairman in Umuchoke Okwe ward in the Onuimo Local Government Area of the state, Christian Ihim, and a female police sergeant, Chinyere Obilor.
“The Imo State Police Command is aware of the iniquitous and obscene video that has gone viral on social media where, a man, suspected to be the abducted Ideato North Local Government Area Sole Administrator, was seen kneeling down, his hands tied, undergoing inhuman act and subsequently killed by suspected members of the Proscribed Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
“The command wish to inform the good people of the State that, we are already on top of the situation following a high powered investigation team, inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police , CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde, and have since commenced technical investigation on the date of the abduction and have been on the trail of the hoodlums where tremendous progress was being made before the surfacing of the obscene video.
“However, the Command’s Tactical Teams are not relenting in their efforts to arrest and unravel the identity of the perpetrators of this dastardly act with the sole aim of bring them to face the full wrath of the law.
“Meanwhile, the Command is using this medium to call on the good people of Ideato North Community and the general public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses as the Police and other Security Agencies are working assiduously as adequate security measures has been put in place to forestall future occurrence.
“Also, advised all and sundry to assist the Police with credible information and to report any clandestine activities or suspicious person(s) seen in their community to the nearest police station or call the Command’s emergency numbers 08034773600 or 08098880197”, the police command stated this on Tuesday.
Same day after the Police Press statement, the Unknown Gunmen on Tuesday night invaded APC Ward Chairman, Christian Ihim’s house in Onuimo, killed him and kidnapped six others believed to be members of his party.
A day after, a female Police Sergeant, Chinyere Obilor was shot dead on Wednesday when some hoodlums attacked her and her colleagues at Ihitte Junction along Owerri-Aba Road in Owerri, the state capital.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said the police would bring the killers of the female Police Sergeant to book.
“Some criminals attacked the APC ward chairman in his house on January 25 and killed him.
“Our men in Onuimo visited the scene, recovered the corpse and deposited it in a mortuary.
“Investigation has commenced with a view to arresting the fleeing killers.
“A female police sergeant was also killed in a hot gun battle.
“The criminals attacked our personnel on Aba Road. The criminals abandoned one of their vehicles which we recovered.
“The Commissioner of Police in Imo State solicits the support of all residents and indigenes in fighting criminal elements.
“Anybody with useful information can dial the command’s emergency numbers for prompt attention”, Henry Okoye said
It was gathered that the Unknown Gunmen who attacked the APC Ward chairman, Christian Ihim, killed him and abducted five other chieftains of the party in the community.
Sources also added that the Unknown Gunmen shot repeatedly through the night, forcing many residents to flee.
Also, the Unknown Gunmen invaded Okwelle, a neighbouring community and abducted a female member of the APC identified as Onyinyechi Egenti.
OsazuwaAkonedo reports that it has been a week of horror in Imo state since on Sunday as many politicians have continued to be killed in a dastardly manner.
