We Are Still Searching For Missing Persons In Anambra Boat Mishap – Soludo

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR has sympathized with the families of persons involved in the boat mishap that occured in Umunnankwo Community in Ogbaru Council Area.

It was gathered that tens of people are still unaccounted for in the unfortunate incident, though search is still ongoing.

However, reports has it that the boat occupants were on their way to Nkwo Ogbakuba when it capsized by Umunankwo Ossomala Bridge and over 10 persons drowned.

“This development is still a shock to the government and good people of Anambra State. I sympathize with the families of people involved”, Governor Soludo said.

While regretting the unfortunate incident, Governor Soludo further stated that several interventions have been sent by government to various IDP camps within the State.

He assured that government will continue to do its best to reduce the negative effects of the flood disaster, just as he called for a permanent solution to it yearly occurrence

"I wasn't there when the boat loaded, but we heard it loaded 85 percent," the SEMA source said.

"The news of this terrible accident is numbing and painful to me as a person, and it must be extremely devastating, especially for the victims' immediate families," he said.

In a press statement, Ogene had previously requested that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) assist the people of Ogbaru in the aftermath of the flood disaster.

Umunankwo, Ogbakuba, Ochuche, Umuzu, Akili Ozizor, Atani, Ohita, and Odekpe.

Amiyi, Iyiowa, Ogbeukwu, Okoti, and parts of Okpoko were also devastated by the raging flood.
